New rail-to-yard connection near Houston streamlines permitting and offers clients greater efficiency in moving heavy, out-of-gauge cargo
BOSS Heavy Haul, LLC has added a dedicated rail transload service at its Dayton, Texas terminal, located just northeast of Houston. The new service links a nearby rail siding to the facility’s 80-acre yard via a half-mile route with no bridge crossings, streamlining transport and permitting for heavy, over-dimensional freight.
With no bridges along the route, shipments avoid the complex bridge engineering typically required for oversized loads under Texas permitting rules. As a result, state permits for cargo moving through the new transload service are typically issued in a week or less in most cases.
The rail transload service builds on the Dayton terminal’s 15-acre Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ), activated earlier this year. Goods entering the FTZ are not subject to import duties or taxes until removed for domestic consumption, an advantage now extended to cargo arriving directly by rail. On-site cranes, gantries, and jack-and-slide equipment support the efficient unloading, staging, and storage of transformers, turbines, generators, rotors, HRSG modules, and similar heavy, out-of-gauge cargo, backed by 24-hour security staffing.
Dave Womack, Vice President of BOSS Heavy Haul, LLC, commented, “This rail connection is a natural extension of the investment we’ve made in our Dayton, TX facility with the recent addition of the FTZ. By coupling this new rail transload service with our secure yard, offload capabilities, and FTZ advantages, we’ve built an efficient, safe, one-stop shop for our clients’ most specialized freight, backed by our expertise in the field.”
By connecting rail, storage, and heavy lift capabilities at a single Gulf Coast location, BOSS Heavy Haul gives customers a faster, more flexible path from origin to final delivery. The investment reflects the company’s continued commitment to building out the infrastructure that specialized and project cargo shippers rely on across the region.
