BOSS Crane & Rigging recently took delivery of one of two Manitowoc MLC 100-1 crawler cranes. The newest equipment in BOSS’s fleet is significant not only for its 110T capacity, but where it was manufactured – Shady Grove, Pennsylvania. The crane is part of Manitowoc’s strategy to build its smaller class of crawler cranes in the USA instead of outsourcing components to Japanese manufacturer, Kobelco.

When H&E Equipment’s Dallas, Texas Sales Representative, Mark Wade approached the BOSS management team about the opportunity to buy American, the team jumped at the chance. “We were excited to hear that all of the components, from the hydraulics to the Cummins engine are all manufactured in the US,” said David Cowley, President of BOSS Crane & Rigging. “Our goal is to create great jobs for operators, riggers and truck drivers right here in America, so all of our employees were proud that we could source equipment that creates jobs here as well.”

Representatives from Manitowoc visited BOSS to supervise the outfitting of the crane because it was the first off of the assembly line. With many future deliveries to come, the Manitowoc team was thrilled to see the first of their new cranes being delivered and setup in the field. According to a release about the crawler crane on Manitowoc’s website, Harley Smith, global product director for crawler cranes at Manitowoc said, “This crane is a huge time saver, with extremely quick set-up and tear-down times, giving our customers more time to get to work.”

Manitowoc’s new MLC100-1 crawler crane has a 100 t (110 USt) capacity and was designed to be erected and decommissioned faster than any other crawler crane in its class.

Setting up a brand-new crane has become business as usual for BOSS, who has brought on over thirty new cranes in the last three years. The Manitowoc MLC 100-1 crawler model is a versatile workhorse that will be used for Texas oilfield work and other terrain that calls for the wide tracks and maneuverability of a crawler. BOSS looks to bring the efficiency of this new crane model’s faster setup times to customers immediately.
